Hasshoku Center
Hasshoku Center is a huge indoor market which housed more than 60 shops selling a variety of freshly and locally caught seafood, locally harvested agriculture produces, poultry, local traditional snacks and liquor.
Yes, indeed Hasshoku Center is like a theme park of Hachinohe foods and a couple of restaurants.
Recommendation: The locals of Aomori prefecture are extremely proud of their apples. Yes, Apples. Aomori is the largest producers of apples in Japan. The apples of Aomori are of the best quality in the world. Crunchy, sweet, refreshing and extremely fragrant. This is a must to try when in Aomori prefecture.
Aomori grown apples are sold by the crates in Hasshoku Center. Pretty impossible to buy unless you drive a car or pull a cart. Locals and tourists, alike would visit Hirosaki Apple Park to experience fruit picking and taste Aomori’s well-loved apples. I have not tried this as my travels to Japan are mostly after the fruit picking season – October, November and December are months for picking apples.
Where were we? Ah.. Back to Hasshoku centre!
The irony is that Hasshoku Centre is a popular tourist destination. A food haven. but no photography using camera is allowed in the center. Just another location food selling location where they seem to believe that tourists can remember the prices of each seafood per stall to compare. More than 60 stalls, no way. By the time I get to the 3rd stall, my head would spin if I intend to compare. Just too many beautiful amazing fresh seafood to compare that it is no longer worth it.
How to get there: 100-yen Hasshoku center bus from Hachinohe Bus Station.
