Padua

Scrovegni Chapel is a small church known for its masterpiece frescoes on walls and ceilings. The land which the chapel was built on was previously where the Roman arena had stood.

IMPORTANT: The entry to the chapel is via Piazza Eremitani. Reservations to the chapel is compulsory and tickets are not refundable. Cappella degli Scrovegni page for more information.

Palazzo della Ragione is a medieval town hall building built in 1219. Its great hall on the upper floor is reputed to have the largest roof unsupported by columns in Europe and that the walls covered with allegorical frescoes.

Opening Days and Hours: The Palace is open on Tuesdays to Sundays between 09:00hrs to 18:30hrs. Entrance charges applies.

Although I may not have the opportunity to visit the Palazzo during my stay in Padua, strolling around its surroundings is just as interesting – South of the Palazzo, Piazza della Erbe and North, Piazza della Frutta. There are also stores at the ground level of the Palazzo which practically covers all the marketing for the day.

Piazza della Erbe is situated south of Palazzo della Ragione and beside a fountain. The stores at this market sell fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices , flowers and seeds.

Market Information: (the market beside a fountain) is situated south of Palazzo della Ragione. Stores at this market sell fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices , flowers and seeds. The market is open on Monday to Friday between 07:00hrs to 13:30hrs and Saturday between 07:30hrs to 20:00hrs.

Piazza della Frutta is a bustling square known for its fruits and vegetables, 12th century tower and historic city court. For centuries, both Piazza della Frutta and Piazza della Erbe were the commercial center of the city. I am not sure if it was due to the bad weather or the time we wandered to this square, there were only a handful of stores operating. I believe that it would have been much busier in Summer and if proper operating hours have been provided.
