We finally arrived to Zagreb after a morning of almost endless waiting for our bus at the Flixbus Ljubljana bus stop.
Ljubljana Transportation Services
Yes, another story to be told in just a few lines –
- Flixbus late – an hour late.
- No shelter from the cold or place to sit to wait – Flixbus pick-up location is only a sign and for all to stand by the side of the road waiting
- Flixbus ticketing officer and driver extremely rude
Tip: Skip taking a bus from Ljubljana to Zagreb. There are trains services for Ljubljana to Zagreb. Tickets can be purchased for the same day travel or the next day. Ljubljana train services have no online website. However, purchase can be made in person at the Tourist information center. If connecting journey will be on autobus, alight the train at Zagreb station and board the tram from the front of Zagreb station and alight right in front of the Autobusni.
The saying goes “All things come in 3s”.
When the first misadventure happens, avoid asking what’s next unless you are emotionally challenged to make more discoveries When the second misadventure happens, start praying that there will not be a third
Zagreb bus interchange
Zagreb is the largest city and capital of Croatia. We were here in 2019 and this time round, we are treating Zagreb as a Stopover from Ljubljana to Medjugorje and Medjugorje to Malaga.
My bad, there was a third
Ticketing officer at Zagreb Autobusni Kolodvor provided us the incorrect platform to wait for our bus to Medjugorje. We were there at the platform when the bus arrived at platform 4. We did not board the bus as the Ticketing officer constantly reminded us that our bus will depart from platform 5. As a result, we missed the bus and had to wait for another bus which would leave at night and required to stopover in Split at 0400hrs. The next bus to depart from Split to Medjugorje will be at 0730hrs and arriving at Medjugorje at 1100hrs.

Tip: I would suggest that it is safer to purchase bus tickets from the main ticketing hall to avoid ‘cowboy’ treatment from individual bus ticketing officers. Zagreb Autobusni Kolodvor is a large bus station with more than 20 platforms. Be sure to insist that the Ticketing Officer jots the platform number on a piece of paper to avoid misunderstanding.
Split bus route to Medjugorje
Split is the second largest city of Croatia. Split lies in the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea. Our initial plans was to stay a night or two in Split before moving onto Medjugorje or to our next destination. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we dropped that idea.
The bus dropped us at Split at 4am in the morning. It was freezing cold with nowhere for us to take shelter from the cold breeze. Our next transportation was to depart Split at 7:30hrs. I have counted 3 mishaps in total. I do not believe that in 4’s. I hope…
The wait somehow created the opportunity for some photography of the harbor, water reflection and the sunrise. It was awesome though teeth chattering.

Tip: Pilgrims traveling from Split to Medjugorje need to be aware. Not all buses from Split would enter to Medjugorje. Our bus picked us up from Split and stopped at a highway cafe for all passengers to switch to another bus. The drivers do not speak English neither were there any indications on the bus ticket.
Do not be afraid to ask other passengers what is going on as they are always kind enough to alert tourists.
Be ready to switch bus and do not expect the drivers to help you bring your luggage from one bus to another.
