Crossing Luis I Bridge

This double-decker Bridge which stretches across Douro River which stretches runs between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. The Bridge blended so well with its surrounding architecture and terrains. The scenery from either side of the River or on the Bridge is sensational.

How to get to Luis I Bridge: Rua Duque de Loulé is directly connected to Rua do Gen. Sousa Dias and Rua de Saraiva de Carvalho in a straight to curved road. Walk along these roads until an intersection where Av. Vimara Peres is on the left side. Av. Vimara Peres is a “No Through Road” for vehicles and leads directly to the top decker of Luis I Bridge.

Not a fan of stairs and carbon monoxide – Go for the upper deck of the Bridge. Pray for good weather and hold onto your hat.

Getting across to Vila Nova de Gaia using the Luis I Bridge: There are multiple ways to cross the River – Boat, vehicle, subway or walk. By subway – Board subway from São Bento station on the Porto side or Jardim do Morro station on the Vila Nova de Gaia side. Please note that the subway will be underground and above ground from portion of Av. Vimara Peres which connects to the Bridge. Most pedestrians walk on either side of the pedestrian path of the Bridge and crossing the subway tracks is permissible. Watch out for the trains when taking photographs.
