Carcassonne is a French fortified city in the Aude, in the region of Occitaine. The historical fortified city is famous for its medieval citadel(La Cité).
This is a tale of two Languedoc towns – La Bastide Saint-Louise and La Cité.
Carcassonne is approximately 3 hours train ride from Lourdes (depending on the train service and type of train). It was ideal staying within the La Bastide Saint-Louise region to enjoy both the citadel and strolling the pedestrian mall of Rue Georges Clemenceau.
La Cité is surrounded by double walls 3km in length, dotted by 52 towers, founded in Gallo-Roman times. The town has a history of approximately 2,500 years. The citadel was restored at the end of the 19th century and added to UNESCO‘s list of World Heritage Sites in the late 90’s.
Hotel de la Cité Carcassonne is one of the most expensive and luxurious hotels within the citadel. Residents of Carcassonne pride this hotel being the temporary ‘Home’ to famous guests such as Grace Kelly, Jacques Chirac, Queen Elizabeth II. The charge per night is ranges between AUD660 to AUD864.
