Further down Via S. Bonaventura, the Emperor’s Castle (Castello dell’Imperatore) and catholic church, Santa Maria delle Carceri (Santuario di Santa Maria delle Carceri).

Emperor’s Castle (Castello dell’Imperatore) was a real castle which the building was commissioned by King Frederick II of Sicilly, the Holy Roman Emperor.

He never visited Prato and when Frederick II died, the building stopped. The interior was never completed.

Entrance: Admission free. Opening Hours: Daily 10:00hrs to 13:00hrs and 16:00hrs to 20:00hrs except Tuesdays.
Photography tip: The climb up the ancient spiral stairs to the top was worth it. The view was amazing. There was no time limit how long you can stay on top and its free. Those who may be suffering from claustrophobia, this climb may not be what I would suggest.
