It was quite a walk from the Emperor’s Castle to the Mercatale Gate. But the view from the bridge (Ponte Mercatale) was worth the effort.

- No public bathrooms from the Emperor’s Castle to Ponte Mercatale.
- The distance from Ponte Mercatale to Prato Centrale is through uncovered neighbourhood. This way is longer.
- Alternative – from the bridge turn left to Via Giacomo Matteotti towards La Passerella bridge to Prato Porta al Serraglio Stazione.
Note: Ponte Mercatale is a shared bridge for pedestrians and vehicles to cross to the other side of the river. The gate is narrow.
Nice way to end the Prato trip with Mercatale Gate (Porta Mercatale)is great when the air is calm for a good reflection.
Getting back to Lucca: Walk along Via Bruno Buozzi to Parco della Statzione Centrale. Train ride will take approximately 1hr 30mins. Visit Trenitalia.com for Train Schedules and Ticket pricing – https://www.trenitalia.com/
