We booked a morning train from Tiburtina to Mestre.
It is quite a wonder that despite the location of Titina B&B to the station being almost a stone-throw-away, navigating with luggage to the train station is like embarking on an obstacle course—watch out for the curbs that seem to leap out at you and those uneven pavements that are practically auditioning for a role in a thrill-seeking movie! If your luggage is on wheels, get ready for a workout because you’ll be doing more lifting than a seasoned weightlifter before you even catch the train!
Suggestion
- Book an early morning train before streets being congested with vehicles.
- Roll luggage against oncoming traffic along Circonvallazione Nomentana – Italian drivers are pretty understanding that the roadworks left little pavement for pedestrians. Drivers will automatically create a distance between their vehicles and pedestrian despite how narrow the road may be.
The train ride to Mestre zooms through Florence and Bologna, and let me break it down for you—the turnaround route is like a quirky magic trick! If you hop on and suddenly feel like you’re doing the cha-cha backwards in your seat, fear not! Once you pass Bologna, you’ll be facing forward, ready to zoom ahead like a pro instead of feeling like you’ve just stepped off a merry-go-round.

This is actually my second trip to Mestre. My first was during my first ever trip to Europe when we took a train to Mestre and a taxi to Camping Venezia Village (formerly known as Camping Venezia). I used to be overwhelmed by the number of people standing along the side of the road. Now I know that there are in fact bus stops located along the stretch of road outside Mestre station and some without shelters.
Venezia Mestre
Venezia Mestre has 8 platforms and all linked by an underground passage to the single-level main station building.
Finding a functioning elevator in European train stations is like playing a game of Bingo—fun until you realize the only thing that you have won was the chance to haul your luggage up the stairs! It turns out, spotting an elevator is a piece of cake, but finding one that actually works? Now that’s a rare prize worth celebrating!
Suggestion:
- Do not rush to drag luggage down the stairs.
- All platforms are accessible by stairs and 1 elevator.
- Elevators are located nearer to the underpass leading to the main station building.
- Exiting from the tunnel, do not rush to drag your luggage up the stairs. There is an elevator to go up to the road level.
Accommodation and Food
Why splurge like crazy when one is on a long holiday or deep pocket? Hotel Montepiana is your budget-friendly oasis.
There will be a concierge desk when checking in. The only issue with this hotel is that they did not provide drinking water. We have submitted feedback, and hopefully, they will implement some changes.
The room is like a gymnasium designed for three people, but could clearly fit at least 5 people! With a plush single bed that’s practically begging you to take a nap, and a spacious double bed made for acrobatics, you could throw a dance party or engage in an epic game of tag with your luggage.
There’s plenty of room for a working desk and, bonus, a private bathroom—ideal for those “I forgot to check in because I’m too busy dancing” moments. Honestly, you could leave three large suitcases wide open and still have more than enough space to moonwalk around them without breaking a sweat!
Hotel Montepiana is situated in the residential neighborhood of Mestre and it takes approximately 5mins to walk from the Mestre Station and approximately 5mins to Church of Saint Mary Immaculate of Lourdes (Chiesa Parrocchiale di Santa Maria Immacolata di Lourdes).
About Church of Saint Mary Immaculate of Lourdes
- This is a Catholic church
- Church is situated along Via Piave and Via Premuda.
- Mass times may vary according to seasons of the year. Click here for updates on mass times.
Mestre is like a small city with diverse cuisines from Italian to Chinese and Halal. Our dinner at Best Indian Food and Restaurant cost approximately Eur25,00 with Borhani.

Suggestion:
- If ordering white rice, ordering 2 plates for 3 persons would be sufficient. Serving of rice is huge.
- If intending to order Borhani, make sure to ask for cold not room temperature. Mine came at room temperature and without mint so it was not quite meet my expectation.
There are lots of smaller grocery shops in Mestre. Given a choice, I would rather spend my Euros in Tiburtina. I get more for what I pay. The same bottle of Blood Orange juice of the same brand bought in Tiburtina costs 3x more in one of Mestre’s grocery shops. If on a tight budget, make sure to shop around first.
