Camino – Portomarin to Ventas de Narón

Gonzar is a small village along Highway LU-633.

Note: Iglesia de Santa Maria de Gonzar looks like an ancient church from the outside. I doubt anyone has been inside as the gates seems shut.

Castro de Castromaior is one of the most popular archeological sites along the Camino Frances route. The Castromaior fort was developed in the Iron Ages and was inhabited between 4th centuries BC and 1 AD until its abandonment with the first Roman approaches.

Tip: Castro is built on an elevated site. There is no clear path to exit the the Castro unless the same way you entered or the tracks made by previous pilgrims. I would strongly advice against creating your own tracks down. Raw tracks can prove to be more dangerous. Download this link for more information what is a Castro e Castromaior

I found this slope to be good for getting out of the Castro. However, do not stand and try running down the slope. The slope is approximately 75 degrees. You can easily fall flat on your face if out of balance and the rocks can be rather sharp.

I got down on my butt and hands to gradually make the descend without tearing my pants.

Tip: Watch out for lose rocks as some may have been loosen by the previous pilgrims crossing the same route.
