Walking the Camino from A Salceda to Lavacolla in Galicia: A Pilgrim’s Journey

Some pilgrims would choose to skip Palas de Rei and walk from Ventas de Naron to Arzua. Some would skip A Rua and walk from A Salceda to Lavacolla. It all depends on how much a pilgrim can walk without being too exhausted the following day.

The distance between A Salceda to A Rua is a mere 6,4km and A Rua to Lavacolla is 11,1km. We decided to walk from A Salceda to Lavacolla, making it 17,5km. The walk from A Salceda to A Rua will be more downhills. A Rua to Lavacolla has an ascend to 173m average and descend to 149m average altitude.

We decided to walk along N-547 instead of doing the Camino route. The road has less mud but is longer.

Awesome start at dawn from A Salceda when the sun has not yet fully emerged from the horizon.

O Pino is a municipality of Galicia of northwestern Spain. All services available but I was not able to locate a drinking water fountain to fill my bottle.

We arrive at Amenal by following N-547 from Salceda. At the end of the roundabout, we walked parallel to N-634 and passed the runway of Santiago de Compostela Airport (the biggest in Galicia).

The village of San Paio is situated in Galicia along the Camino French route. There are around 3 cafes there serving food and drinks.

Lavacolla is the outskirt of Santiago de Compostela. To most pilgrims, this is the last stop before entering Santiago de Compostela. Accordingly, our hosts offered all guests a free pick-up from Santiago Airport and a drop-off at the same location the following day to continue the walk. However, we make our way to the accommodation on foot instead.
