Kaymakli Underground City
The Kaymakli Underground city was built as early as the 7th century BC. Hittites were the initial inhabitants then later by early Christians expanding and hiding within these tunnels and caves from religious persecution during the Arab-Byzantine Wars.
The Kaymakli Underground City was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985.

The good thing of being under height, the ceilings of these caves are low. Yes, some of the tunnels and caves are narrow and ceiling being low. Negotiating through require some to basically squat or hunch. I would strongly encourage engaging a guide for this tour to explain each about the cave and each corner or usage. Our guide Ahmet did a fine job in this.

Important point: If you are claustrophobic and uncomfortable having to squeeze, you will have to inform your guide for alternatives.
