Greece – Athens & Airport Adventure

Sight-seeing without Public Transportation

Experience of sight-seeing without the use of public transport and with temperatures soring? Good thing, less crowded. As the noon sets on Athens, the temperature sore. It was quite humid which slowed down our pace.

Church of the Holy Trinity

The Church doors were open early that morning but the inner doors were locked. We just admired the church’s intricate carvings from its courtyard.

Zappeion Hall

The Zappeion is one of the city’s most renowned modern landmarks. After traveling other places in Europe where tourists from the exterior of the buildings can see high columns, the Zappeion looks just like any normal building. However, the interior reminds me so much of a building featured in the movie “Alexander the Great” where Alexander was taught to wrestler at a young age.

Temple of Olympian Zeus

Beyond the surrounding wired fences, various shrubs and trees lies the remains of the ancient Temple dedicated to “Olympian” Zeus. Entry to the park is through Hadrian’s Arch. The historic Arch can be seen along Leoforos Vasilisis Amalias.

Here’s a tip – do not necessarily need to be beside any of these monuments if the intention is to capture the whole monument in a photo. The columns are not just huge but enormous.

I shot the remains of the Temple from the wired fence and Hadrian’s Arch from across the road.

Updates on Ticket prices and Opening hours – visit Odysseus Culture.

As this is the first day of the Public Transportation strike, the metro seem to be operating but not at regular intervals. Good thing was that our favorite Gyros shop was open when we returned to Georgiou Gklisti just to purchase some good delicious and cheap meal.
