Tanukikoji Shopping Street

Tanukikoji Shopping Street is a very long sheltered pedestrian street with shops, dining outlets and accommodations on both sides of the street arcade. This Pedestrian-only street is one of the Hokkaido’s oldest shopping street dating back to 1873.

We chanced upon this sheltered arcade after we had enough of the Nijo Market.

The fully sheltered arcade allows pedestrians to keep dry on rainy days. I love the planning of this City as it has taken into account the welfare of the residents. The block which intersects the subway line to Susukino subway station has an elevator leading to a long underpass passage of shopping mall towards Susukino subway station which is 3 blocks down southwards.

One shop which attracted my attention was the Japanese Capsule Toy shops. The shop seem to be popular hangout for both children and adults. The shop has narrow alleys of capsule dispensers stacked as high as 4 dispensers high against the wall with columns of capsule dispensers lined side by side.
