Asahikawa

Asahikawa experiences (Cont’)

Experience 4: Asahikawa Ramen Village was found in 1996 by eight popular ramen shops in the outskirt of the city. The owners of the popular ramen shops decided to house their shops under one roof and naming the place, Ramen Village.

Hokkaido ramen is famous for its miso base, Asahikawa is known for their shoyu (soy sauce) soup with a thin layer of oil. Shops serving shoyu based ramen can be found throughout the city. For ramen lovers, this is something different and with a thin layer of oil making the ramen smoother.

This is Plan B – Feasting till our hearts’ content at Ramen Village. Ramen Village is situated at the outskirts of the Asahikawa city. Local train on Sekihoku Line to Minami-Nagayama station and approximately 8-10mins walk to get there.

The prices are competitive and patrons usually make reservations at the cheapest shop. Patrons are usually spoilt for choices here and tend to look for the cheapest bowl of hearty ramen to warm themselves. Once a shop places the signboard “Full”, it would mean that the shop will not be accepting anymore walk-in customers.

How to get there: Take a local train from JR Asahikawa Sta. to MinamiNagayama on JR Sekihoku Main Line. Head north-west, approximately 550 meters walk. Ramen Village is directly opposite Bikkuri Donkey (Family restaurant). Train ride is approximately 300yen and no Transfers required.
